Beware Improvement

Doesn't get any better than this

The wilds are pretty much perfect just as they are, synergistic and self regulating, technology far in advance of anything humans yet understand. A wondrous and fortunate mystery is Earth's life support system. Not all human interventions into the wild are degradations, but if intervention is justified as improvement or management, then degradation is almost a certainty.

Not helpful

For example, timber cutting has often been justified as "improving the forest" or as "forest management". How can cutting down the tallest and most robust trees be an improvement to the forest? That's what logging for veneer requires, the technique of imparting a high quality gloss to inferior materials. Taking timber for veneer just generates more landfill destined schlock.

Forests are not improved when utility companies burn trees to generate electricity, as they do in so called biomass power plants. Renewable energy shams prey upon our innate desire for nature rapport. The transmogrifying of environmentalism into carbon maximalism is a triumph of thugs and psychopaths.

Under the ruse of improvement, forest owners unwittingly transfer the health and wealth of their forest elsewhere. Wilds management is an oxymoron. We can't manage what we don't even understand. The reverse seems reasonable, we certainly can be improved BY the wilds.
